This area, appropriately called Badwater Basin, is the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below sea level and is located near the middle of Death Valley National Park in California. When I pulled into the parking lot, it was 102 degrees and rising. After taking this panorama from the overlook, I hiked out to the middle of Badwater Basin -- and it seemed to get even hotter.
