The Northwest Angle of Minnesota is a real geographic oddity.  Because this area hadn't been surveyed well back in the 1700's at the time boundary treaties were being established, this pocket of the U.S. ended up being surrounded by Canada.  To get to the Northwest Angle, you cross the U.S. border going into Canada, drive through Canada for about 30 miles, then cross back into the U.S in the Angle.

The Northwest Angle has about 100 year-round residents and the small settlement of Angle Inlet, the northernmost community in the U.S., lies at the center of it all.  I camped here one night at Jake's Resort, then the owner, a nice fellow named Paul, was kind enough to take me in his boat the next morning to visit the northernmost point of the contiguous United States.  I show that in my next panorama.
