Point Arena, California (WSW-most Point of US): May 15, 2016
This unnamed point, a few miles south of Point Arena, California, is the west-southwesternmost point of the contiguous United States. It's also the point on the U.S. mainland that's closest to Hawaii.
It's located in the recently-created California Coastal National Monument, a large expanse of protected coastal grasslands north of San Francisco. From Highway 1, I hiked out about an hour out to this point at dusk, capturing it with this panorama before the sun set. And the best part of it? I didn't encounter one other person. This National Monument is a hidden gem.
