Chilicotal Campsite, Big Bend National Park:  May 27, 2016

I spent two nights camping at Big Bend National Park in Texas.  On the first night, I camped in Cottonwood Campground on the Rio Grande River and, when I pulled in at 11 p.m., the thermometer read 95 degrees.  I decided to try a primitive campsite on my second day and hopefully a bit higher (and cooler), and a friendly ranger suggested this remote place called Chilicotal, located on the eastern side of the park.

It turned out to be an excellent recommendation.  I had this place all to myself and could see for miles, and it was a wonderful evening -- one of the best of my trip so far.  The next morning, before driving to Austin, I shot this panorama of my isolated campsite.  I'm definitely coming back here someday.
